Armenian Street PART I , between Beach Street and Pitt Street.
(1)Hokkien , Pún-thaù-kong hāng 本头公巷 “gods’ lane” so called after the Kong-si house of the Toa Peh Kong 大伯公 otherwise known as the Kièn Tek 建德 secret society, where they kept their gods ; the remains of that Kong-si house may still be seen at the junction of Armenian Street and Pitt Street. Cantonese , Tai-pak-kung hong 大伯公巷 “gods’ lane”
(2)Hokkien , Kièn goǎn ke 建元街 Kièn is evidently taken from the name of the Kien Tek Kong-si referred to in (1). Goan means origin and Ke street.
