
Here's a nice and educational way to spend your weekend: join us to tour the heritage town of Taiping!As part of our effort to promote greater awareness of heritage sites locally and abroad, the Penang Heritage Trust is pleased to offer you this heritage trip which we plan to conduct on a semi-regular basis. We will leave Penang accompanied by a licensed tour guide to Taiping, where a Taiping-based guide is on hand to receive us and take us around. Our tour includes a lunch as well as an afternoon tea in Taiping. The fare is only RM99 for adults and RM66 for children aged 13 and below (free for infants not requiring own seat).

Itinerary
Timeline provided is an approximation.8:00 am : Assemble outside Queensbay Mall's Coffee Bean to board the coach for Taiping. A licensed tour guide will be in attendance.
9:00 am: Our Taiping-based local guide comes on board as we enter Taiping. From there, we proceed to visit the Charcoal Kiln in Matang. A briefing will be given on the aged-old trade of charcoal making, which uses wood from the mangrove forest nearby. After visiting the kiln, we make a stop to view the mangrove trees at the Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve. We will pass through Port Weld / Kuala Sepetang, site of the first railway in Malaya. Next, we proceed to Kota Ngah Ibrahim and the adjacent Captain Speedy's House. Ngah Ibrahim and Captain Speedy are personalities related to the Larut Wars of the 19th century, and are prominent historical figures in Taiping.
11:30 am: We stop at the Kuan Yin Chinese Temple, visiting it along with adjacent Chinese temples. We get to know the history of the Chinese in Taiping.
12:00 noon: A nice lunch awaits us in Taiping. We have an hour for the meal, to unwind and to freshen up.
1:00 pm: Now we enter the heritage town of Taiping. Our coach will park somewhere, and the guide takes us on a walking tour, the best way to see Taiping upclose. We find out about all the heritage buildings along the way.
3:00 pm: We return to the coach, which takes us on a nice drive around Taiping. We stop in front of the Perak Museum, where our guide will provide details about the museum and the jail on the opposite side of the road. We then drive around Taiping Lake Gardens, passing Taiping Zoo, New Club, and other sights of Taiping. The coach takes us to the Casuarina, where an afternoon tea awaits us.
4:00 pm: Afternoon tea at the Casuarina.
4:30 pm: We depart Taiping for Penang, which we expect to reach at 6:00 pm. The journey ends where it began, at Queensbay Mall Coffee Bean.
